Our West Melton School Curriculum is infused with all the Principles, Values and Beliefs of the NZ Curriculum. As a learning community, we promote a Values and Vision based approach. Decisions about learning are based on rich concepts and enable students to make connections and see real purposes for their learning.

The West Melton School ICE DRIVER was developed in 2016 following professional learning. We identified key attributes and values for our learners. Ideas were synthesised and the ICE DRIVER created as a visual representation. The key aspects of the ICE DRIVER are used in the development of curriculum plans, units of learning, and when reflecting and reviewing what and how we teach and learn.

Innovative, Connected, Empowered learners driving their passion for learning

In developing curriculum, we must choose what is valuable; our decisions must be influenced by our desire to help children see the richness of their world and use their literacies to improve the quality of their lives, in school and out.
Teaching and learning programmes at West Melton School are developed through a wide range of experiences with opportunities to achieve for success in all areas of the NZ Curriculum. Within the eight learning areas specified in the NZ Curriculum: English, The Arts, Health and PE, Learning Languages, Mathematics and Statistics, Science, Social Studies and Technology, links between learning areas are explored in connecting purposeful, powerful learning.
