We are zoned to contribute to Darfield High School and although some areas of West Melton are now out of zone some students still attend Lincoln High School. An increasing number of students are now attending secondary schools in Christchurch.
Pre-school education is provided by the local Playcentre and the Templeton Kindergarten and a new extended Kindergarten and Nursery directly across the road. They also provide before and after school care.
There are 10 Ministry classrooms and one multipurpose room. We also have a building which contains a resource room, storage facility and two small rooms available for small group or one to one tuition. In 2005 a classroom was refurbished to become the library. The old stand alone library was converted to a classroom.
Teaching aids and resources include a full range of audio-visual equipment. e.g. scanner, digital cameras, data projectors, sound system, class stereos, video camera. All classes have access to computers. All teachers have a laptop. The office administration has an IBM compatible computer and the Library is computerized. The school is on a server and is connected to broadband internet service. All classes have intranet links.
A close liaison operates with the University of Canterbury Teacher Training programme and most staff are associate teachers.
The well planted and beautifully maintained grounds comprise a large sheltered playing field, two sealed netball courts, a 25 metre swimming pool, two adventure playgrounds, an in ground trampoline and a large shade covered sandpit. Children are able to check out sports gear in the lunch break.
Although the school does not have an assembly hall, it does have an outdoor theatre and access to a community hall, which is a 400-metre walk away across the highway.
Three bus routes serve the school and these are run by the Ministry of Education.
The School is a Smoke Free environment.
